About our cause
Food Forests: Community Farming with a Twist!
It is an unpredictable and tempestuous time. Our modern world is changing at an alarming rate. Climate change, declining wildlife, social isolation and mental health issues are prevalent wherever we go, and are some of the most pressing issues we face today.
To help combat these issues, we must meet them head on. Governments
and world leaders must make hard decisions about the way we function as a society, and we too must make hard decisions about what types of lifestyles we lead. On top of this, it is important that a concerted grass roots effort is made at a local level to help heal communities, and educate about the need for living sustainably; this is where the Food Forest Project comes in.
The Food Forest Project provides a much needed and valuable service for the community, by working with local people to plant food forests. Food forests are a form of regenerative agriculture, which means the soil is rehabilitated during the food production process, creating ever more fertile ground for healthier and more resiliant crops! We work with local landowners that share our ideals, and have community plant up days where we plant nut and fruit trees, berry and current shrubs, perennial vegetables, herbs and vines, all for community use and for free! Please see our website for more details, and for projects that we have worked on in the local area. We aim to help people suffering form social isolation issues, and mental health issues find community, and begin to heal. In planting food forests we are creating a home for local wildlife to help support our key local species. The food forests regenerate the earth through production, stablise soil erosion and mitigate flooding through ground consolidation.
